Watched by a large crowd who braved a chilly and wet evening to watch the displays, Star threw everything they could at the competition with an absolute determination to win both their first ever competition and a coveted place in the finals, which take place at Plymouth on 12th and 13th August this year.

Competing against two local rivals, Celebration Displays from Manchester and Highlight Pyrotechnics from Runcorn, Star faced a stiff battle but their grit and determination ultimately gave them the edge, although it was a close thing.

For the crowd it was a ‘Wow’ event that involved the biggest firework display the city has ever seen and all set against the backdrop of a city determined to put itself on the map.

This was the first of five heats being run this year in advance of the two-day final in Plymouth when the five winners and best runner up will get to take each other on for the ultimate prize of becoming British Firework Champions 2008.

The northern heat was organised by The Event Services Association in partnership with  Salford City Council, who arranged for music, a fun fair and other fire-based entertainments to keep the crowd entertained throughout the evening.
